A platform to increase online community engagement
Regathering.ca provides a platform for newcomers in Canada and minority populations to increase their community engagement and learn from one another’s experiences. People can go to this online platform, create an online Gathering and find those from their community who are interested in their Gathering. Then in an online group of 6 to 8 people, people get online and get together for one hour at a specific time and date proposed by the Gathering organizer. These Gatherings are small in size, interactive, and culturally distinctive. Participants can talk together, find new friends, learn from others’ experiences and potentially network with those who have similar interests.

We launched this initiative to foster connections and strengthen social belonging by building supportive networks within the community. During the COVID-19 pandemic, community engagement and social support became more vital than ever. While the virus impacted many directly, it also caused a global rise in stress and anxiety—especially among minority groups and newcomers.
